Discoveries

My name appears in no his-story book
born during changing times
nineteen-hundred and fifty-two
sixteen years later
I
dis-covered
America.

I viewed it all
though most were sure I'd never conquor that fence
which kept me on its wrong side
but I tried
scoped escapism and when the war started
I stayed
another decade passed, but not before inflicting
the most excrutiating of pains
(1968 was a very cold year...)
Rapt in the thralls of anticipated mournings
I
dis/covered
America.

Took a tripp when get-high days came
it was a long walk back
traveled to nowhereland in vain
though I shunned the plan that I inject slow death
into my veins
and the most rewarding of gains was that I
dis/covered
America.

Once found my Self in an alley among poverty and waste
tried hard to ignore them
though they were familiar
Spaced over the nation's capital
for example
corruption hid in a glass house oh, most certainly
I
dis/covered
America.

While rich folk melted in Florida suns
as young minds wasted
away...

Columbus couldn't touch this.
